ASA’s World Initiative for Soy in Human Health’s latest trade-building activity brought potential customers for U.S. soy from Ghana, Kenya and Senegal to Kansas for training on U.S. soy in animal feeds. WISHH leveraged funds from the Kansas Soybean Commission with USDA Regional Agricultural Promotion Program (RAPP) to a Kansas soybean farm and the IGP Feed Manufacturing Short Course offered June 24-27 by the Department of Grain Science and Industry at Kansas State University.
The nine participants included feed nutritionists, buyers and managers from leading feed manufacturers in Ghana, Senegal and Kenya. KSU staff presented extrusion, quality assurance and more. WISHH Trade Relations Consultant Rob Prather led a two-hour discussion with the group about how to buy U.S. soy.
Nicole Rezac-Harrison hosted the group at her family farm in Belvue, Kansas, providing them with the important opportunity to see the many steps taken by U.S. farmers to produce quality soy for nutritious feeds.
WISHH staff and contractors will continue to provide technical assistance to the trade team participants so they can implement the training on their own farm as they also seek to purchase U.S. soybean meal.
