The ASA’s World Initiative for Soy in Human Health program joined two partners from Costa Rica at a U.S. Soybean Baking Workshop in Bogotá, Colombia March 10th-11th. The workshop highlights how U.S. soy ingredients can enhance food products through improved nutrition, functionality, and taste. The two participants represent Grupo Trisan, where one serves as a Bakery Solutions Specialist, and Walmart Costa Rica, where the other works as a Technical Baking Advisor.
Hosted by the U.S. Soybean Export Council, the two-day workshop combines classroom sessions with hands-on demonstrations focused on baking applications using U.S. soybean oil and soybean meal. Participants are exploring topics such as the health and sustainability benefits of soybean oil, the role of soy protein in bread production and practical techniques for incorporating soy ingredients into breads and pastries. By building technical knowledge among bakery professionals in Latin America, the training helps expand opportunities for U.S. soy in the region’s growing food sector.
“Training bakery professionals to use U.S. soy ingredients helps open new food-sector markets for U.S. soybean farmers,” added Amy Weise, WISHH’s Latin America Division Program Manager.
