The ASA’s World Initiative for Soy in Human Health program welcomed animal feed company leaders from Cambodia and Kazakhstan to North Dakota in early May for an international trade team in cooperation with the Northern Crops Institute and the North Dakota Soybean Council. The delegation is in the United States to explore the advantages of incorporating U.S. soy into their animal feed operations. Members received a firsthand overview of soy production in the United States and an in-depth explanation on how to calculate the value of essential amino acids in U.S. soybean meal. For the Kazakh participants, this marks their first visit to NCI where they are engaging with animal feed application experts.

The trade team included both classroom and field experiences as members learned about the economic benefits of essential amino acids, toured a soybean farm, met with six U.S exporters and soy processors, and also visited a container loading facility, a transload container terminal and a river barge loading facility. WISHH leveraged support from the North Dakota soybean checkoff program with USDA’s Regional Agricultural Promotion Program funds to build this year’s trade team.
