
The ASA’s World Initiative for Soy in Human Health program participated in the SAARC Foods Sri Lanka Food Safety Workshop in Colombo in early May. WISHH participated in the workshop to highlight the many benefits of U.S. soy in food applications. The workshop also allowed WISHH to foster valuable connections with industry leaders and decision-makers. It included more than 100 high-end, large-scale food manufacturers, food safety leaders, public health thought leaders, food safety quality certification consultants and food manufacturing facility safety representatives.
Additionally, due to support from USDA Market Access Promotion funding, Haley Oliver, Ph.D., gave a keynote presentation on “The Future of Food Safety,” which emphasized food safety across the entire value chain, encouraging collaboration among multiple sectors, from farmers and food processors to universities and public health leaders. Oliver is the 150th Anniversary Professor of food science at Purdue University and vice provost for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars.
Ultimately, the workshop supported WISHH in expanding opportunities for U.S. soy in foods in Asia. WISHH participated in the event with support from the United Soybean Board.
