ASA’s World Initiative for Soy in Human Health program moderated a panel at the African Buyers and Sellers Conference in Abidjan, Ivory Coast this week. Hosted by the U.S Grains Council, the conference brings together African purchasers and U.S. suppliers of feed inputs, include U.S. soy. It offers in-person opportunities for buyers to speak directly with U.S. suppliers such as Cargill, International Feed, and The Andersons. Speakers discussed topics such as feed demand in sub-Saharan Africa, how to work with U.S. exporters, and global freight trends.
WISHH sponsored attendees from Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Kenya, and Uganda, offering its partners key opportunities to discuss the value of U.S. soy directly with these suppliers. These twenty feed manufacturing professionals represented companies that have previously purchased U.S. soy or companies that have expressed interest in purchasing U.S. soy. Additionally, WISHH Africa Division Director Chris Slemp moderated a panel that showcased buyer perspectives from Ghana and Nigeria. Ghanian businessmen Kwasi Nyamekye, CEO of Vester Oil Mills and Thomas Agyei-Poku, CFO of FMB Farms, joined Nigeria’s Shashikant Teltumbade, CEO of Karma Agric Feeds and Fisheries, to discuss their work with WISHH and the value of U.S. soy for their companies.
WISHH and its partners participated in the conference with the support of USDA Regional Agricultural Promotion Program funding.
