Soyfoods for Haiti Alliance Being Developed Internationally
January 18, 2010.....In cooperation with various soyfood-related entities, including the US-based World Soy Foundation and the European organization Bridge2Food (formerly PROSOY Research and Strategy), the Canadian non-profit Malnutrition Matters is developing a multi-national SoyFoods Haiti Alliance Relief Effort or "SHARE".
The overriding principle of this effort is to promote and facilitate the donation and delivery of soy-based foods to Haiti. These should include protein-rich snacks, ready-to-eat foods, beverages and quick-cook products. Eventually, and on a longer-term basis, it could include soybeans, soy protein ingredients and micro-nutrient supplements for value-added processing in Haiti.
The initial effort is to develop the alliance and encourage participation by various potential allies. In this regard the first action is to introduce web pages for Canada, Europe and the USA, which will list contact names and related information. Eventually these pages will be able to cross-reference information and contacts and include: names of committed donor companies, strategic support allies, related NGOs, shipping and logistic information, etc. The ultimate outcome should be that entities in each region would benefit from information sourced from others, such that synergies and ideas would evolve to help feed the people of Haiti beyond the initial emergency relief supplies.
The various web pages would evolve, perhaps daily, to include updated news, contacts and other information. For people interested in visiting these sites more than once, it will be important to click on their web browser's refresh button to be able to see the new information.
