Guatemala Projects Focus of Mission Trip by WISHH Staff

St. Louis…ASA Leader Letter... June 25, 2009… Executive Director of the American Soybean Association's (ASA) World Initiative for Soy in Human Health (WISHH) and the World Soy Foundation (WSF) Jim Hershey was in Guatemala this week on a dual mission for both WISHH and WSF.

Hershey met with soy flour importers to discuss WISHH activities in the region. Guatemala continues to be a strong market for U.S. soy protein for both the commercial sector and for the World Food Program. Traveling with Hershey was American Soybean Association International Marketing Human Nutrition Coordinator Nayeli Vilanova. Vilanova is organizing technical visits to help enhance utilization of U.S. soy.

Hershey also met with Cargill representatives about the Guatemala portion of WSF’s Central American project, funded by Cargill. Hershey and the Cargill representatives discussed improving the nutrition of school feeding programs in poor neighborhoods using textured soy protein donated by Cargill.
