World Leaders At Global Child Nutrition Forum Learn About WISHH
St. Louis…ASA Leader Letter... May 8, 2009… The Executive Director of the American Soybean Association’s World Initiative for Soy in Human Health (WISHH), Jim Hershey, was an invited speaker at the Global Child Nutrition Forum, held in Cape Town, South Africa this week. This annual event brings school feeding leaders from around the world together to discuss nutrition, education and school feeding.
Hershey presented the WISHH message to more than 100 delegates. He pointed out that most of the developing world and many children are protein deficient, and U.S. soy can fill that gap.
Also attending the conference was a delegation from Illinois: C.W. Gaffner, Illinois Soybean Association Board member; Pat Dumoulin, World Soy Foundation and Illinois Soybean Board member; and Bridget Owen, Assistant Director of the National Soybean Research Laboratory (NSRL).
The WISHH and Illinois soybean team will round out their week with meetings with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service personnel, the Illinois Department of Commerce and the Soy in Southern Africa Association, which WISHH continues to mentor.
