WISHH Hosts Nutrition Conference In Nigeria
St. Louis…October 30, 2008… This week Jim Hershey, Executive Director of the American Soybean Association’s World Initiative for Soy in Human Health (WISHH) and World Soy Foundation, traveled to Nigeria to host a WISHH conference in the Sub-Saharan African nation.
More than 100 business, government and academic officials attended the one-day soyfoods conference in Lagos, the commercial capitol of Nigeria. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Attaché Ali Abdi opened the meeting, highlighting increasing trade in agricultural goods. WISHH partners Solae and Tetra Pak sent international representatives to the meeting.
Many of the Nigerian attendees expressed interest in soy protein, which is in very short supply in Nigeria. WISHH is sending a container of soy flour and textured soy, funded by USDA’s quality samples program, to demonstrate soy’s effectiveness at increasing quality and lowering the cost of meat and baked goods.
